At the end of my engineering studies, I had
the opportunity to broaden my mind by
spending the final year in the USA. Attending
courses at Pittsburgh's College of Business
Administration afforded me a more global and
business outlook while sharing with students
of various backgrounds and from diverse
origins and cultures. After graduation, an
international environment and a challenging
industry became key criteria in my job search
and, attracted to exceptional projects, I rapidly
decided to turn to the oil industry.
Among the oil companies and contractors I
investigated, Geoservices demonstrated a
strong presence worldwide, leadership in
major oil services and a continuous focus on
high technology while keeping great human
values and friendly relations between people.
During the interview, Geoservices appeared
really receptive to my interest in both
technical and non-technical fields, offering
wide and fast career opportunities and open
to moves between departments. I remember
discussing the standard first field assignment
as Mud Logger but also marketing aspects,
R&D in the production service line, Human
Resources and operations management.
I couldn't imagine that this conversation
would be so true and practical…
After some training and field experience in
Mud Logging (Italy and Austria), my
mechanical engineering background naturally
leads me to the production department.
Performing gauge jobs in France, giving
assistance in Well Testing and Slickline
Operations in Gabon, I finally specialized
in Memory Production Logging (MPLT)
and performed my first campaign alone in
Congo after theoretical training in England.
This type of operation, associated with
other well measurements, is frequent in this
country and requires a supervisor position
combining notably operations management,
team leadership and customer relations. Four
months after my first trip, this job became
vacant and I was selected to take over from
the predecessor. This experience was so rich
and successful that, 18 months later, I was
appointed Base Manager in this country, where
all the various types of service proposed by
Geoservices (Mud Logging, Well Intervention
and Field Surveillance) are performed. The
scope of work is large and substantial: driving
a team, administering a budget, ensuring the
best service quality possible, marketing new
technologies, representing the company to
the local authorities, all kinds of challenges
for a solid approach to management. These
three years of seniority and organisational
experience made me more at ease to cover
another country at the same time (Cameroon).
Today, after almost six years of expatriate life
in Congo, Geoservices suggested that I come
back to headquarters to acquire a broader
view of the company, entrusting me with all
the ‘remote operations' in Africa (countries
where Geoservices has no permanent base).
If you're ready to invest yourself in an
engaging industry and feel driven by
technological and human challenges in an
international environment, an exciting path is
waiting for you at Geoservices!
