Following the merger with internationally recognised UK law firm Kendall Freeman, EAPD now combines the expertise of over 600 lawyers in 30 practice groups, across the US, UK and Hong Kong. We offer an array of legal services to a diverse range of clients worldwide, from the largest multinationals to overseas governments and high profile individuals. Our lawyers work alongside our clients to provide effective commercial advice and our culture of respect and professional excellence are key factors in how we respond to our clients' needs.
In London, the firm's main practice areas are Litigation, Regulatory & Transactional, Insolvency and Restructuring and Intellectual Property. Within these areas we have many specialisms including insurance/reinsurance, employment, public international law, energy and offshore engineering, asset recovery and life sciences. Much of the work we do is international in content, emanating from the US, Bermuda, Africa, Hong Kong and Europe.
Despite the size of the firm as a whole, the office in London is small by City standards. It also offers trainees something unique: the excitement, challenge and variety of complex international work, in the supportive environment of a small strong established City practice. You will be one of a select few trainees, allowing us to offer a very personalised training contract. Trainees spend six months in four of the firm's major practice areas. Frequent workshops on our tailored training programme help develop the technical skills and knowledge needed in those areas. Following the merger, there are opportunities for overseas secondments, in addition to regular secondments in London.
Regular structured feedback, reviews and constructive advice enable you to fulfil your true potential. A multi-level support network, including buddies, partner mentors and the trainee pastoral team, ensures that you have the correct level of guidance and that support is never overstretched. Any suggestions or concerns can be voiced at a trainee solicitors' committee, which meets quarterly.
We recruit up to 8 trainees per year from both law and non-law backgrounds and look for a range of qualities and experience. Consistently strong academic ability is important but this must be combined with common sense, initiative and drive. We look for candidates who can show a high level of commitment to a range of activities, who have made the most of their opportunities and who are not afraid of hard work. You should be able to give clear evidence of taking on responsibilities in team based activities but can also show you can go it alone when required. A range of work experience (not just legal) is also key, as is evidence of juggling your studies and outside interests.
We run an award winning summer placement scheme every year, where students have the opportunity to get a really 'hands-on' experience of the firm, the work it does, the culture and the people. Our scheme combines real work with seminars, workshops and social events. We also host open days throughout the year, dates of which can be found on our website.
