Birmingham is a city with ambition ....and a
vision!
Imagine..."It's 2026...Birmingham is a
globally competitive city contributing fully
to the thriving, prosperous and sustainable
city region. Birmingham people have high
aspirations, and the skills and opportunities
they need to succeed.
Birmingham is a safe, clean and friendly city
that is tackling climate change and protecting
the local environment. People are healthy and
economically successful, and enjoy living
together. The city is truly ‘a global city with
a local heart'."
This is the vision that Birmingham City
Council (BCC) has signed up to with its
community and private and public sector
partners - a vision of Birmingham in 18 years
time. This is an ambitious vision for both the
people of Birmingham and the City Council.
Our vision means that we need to employ
talented and committed people, who are
passionate about the issues that matter, and
want to put public service at the heart of what
they do.
The Birmingham Graduate Development
Programme (BGDP) was created for this
reason, to support the development of highly
skilled and effective leaders to deliver the
Birmingham we strive for.
The Birmingham Graduate Development
Programme (BGDP)
Birmingham City Council set up its own
graduate development programme in 2007,
championed by Cllr Alan Rudge, Cabinet
Member for Equalities & Human Resources,
to develop management and leadership
capacity within the council and to develop
people who can drive through improvement
through efficiency, living and breathing the
core values of Belief, Excellence, Success &
Trust.
"Our programme has attracted huge interest
in the graduate employment market and we
have been very successful in recruiting a high
number of high calibre candidates, retaining
talent in the City and offering clear career
development pathways for people with a
passion for and commitment to Birmingham.
I am very proud of our graduates, and the
critical contribution they make to our city".
