Joined Maxxium UK - August 06
Current Job Title - Brand Manager- Sauza,
Bols Liqueurs, Galliano and Bols Genever.
What attracted you to Maxxium UK?
Developing a brand identity and using it to
bolster profits really appeals to my creative
side. When I graduated, I began temping at
Maximum UK within customer services.
My time in this department gave me a great
insight into the Maxxium UK brand portfolio,
the ethos and style of the company and the
vast audience they appeal to. Maxxium
UK's unique ability to nurture creativity and
enthusiasm appealed to me instantly and since
then I have never looked back.
Career so far
My first role within marketing at Maxxium
UK was as an Activation Manager for a
leading vodka brand. Some people may have
found it daunting to cut their teeth working
with one of the most well respected brands in
the industry but I was very lucky to work next
to some of the best practitioners and I learnt
a huge amount.
Working within a large marketing department
gave me the opportunity to develop my
knowledge across the brand portfolio and
when the opportunity to work with other
brands became available I grabbed the
chance. I was promoted to Assistant Brand
Manager for one of our Liqueurs. The
experience gained in my first year put me in a
strong position to take on the new challenge
as I had a strong understanding of Profit and
Loss, Maxxium UK's sales force structure
and managing brand building. After a year
in this position I was promoted to my current
role as Brand Manager.
My Current role
As the Brand Manager for Sauza Tequila,
Bols Liqueurs and Galliano I am responsible
for their performance and profitability within
the UK market. I have an in-depth knowledge
of these brands and I really appreciate each
of them for their individuality as products
but also the audience they appeal to. Working
closely with creative agencies and the brand
owners I have been able to help shape each
brand's style and positioning. Going in to
a bar or supermarket and seeing people
purchasing and enjoying my brands gives me
a huge amount of job satisfaction.
What aspects of your job do you enjoy?
Working across a number of brands means
that no two days are ever the same. I go from
sitting in planning meetings for Bols one
day to hosting Suaza launch events the next.
Through this role I have been lucky enough to
gain exposure to all elements of the marketing
mix. Marketing tools are constantly evolving
with the use of digital tactics and social
marketing becoming ever more prevalent.
What is relevant for one brand may not fit
with another, which means I am constantly
getting to explore different arenas and styles.
When I first started this role I was totally
unaware of the financial side of business, it
wasn't something I had ever been exposed
to in previous roles. Over time I have
developed this and it has given me a greater
understanding of how Maxxium UK as a
whole can develop its profitability.
Working closely with my line managers has
been instrumental in getting me to where I
am now. Maxxium UK's senior management
team encourages all of their employees to seek
advice from those with extensive expertise
and to support those still finding their feet.
This has helped generate a strong unit that
works well together and also has fun. As well
as on-the-job training Maxxium UK gives
employees the opportunity to go through
the internal marketing training programme
allowing you to expand your knowledge
across all disciplines.
