Nationwide Graduate Programme (NGP)
As the UK's biggest building society we don't have any shareholders. What we do have is a passionate, wholehearted commitment to our customers and the communities we serve. It's the quality of our people that enables us to understand our customers' needs and to create innovative solutions to help them achieve their financial goals.

Here in the UK, we offer a two or three year graduate programme, comprising either a generalist or a specialist scheme. Both schemes incorporate comprehensive training programmes, job rotations around the business to broaden your experience and access to a senior mentor, who will support you through the scheme. If you provide the enthusiasm and drive to succeed, we'll provide all the tools, training and support you'll need to advance your career.

Training & Development
Training is provided through a combination of group learning, on-the-job initiatives, coaching and skills training, which include leadership and relationship skills. The aim is to help you increase your commercial awareness and learn how to make a direct impact.

We have an excellent mentoring structure, linked to regular discussions, feedback and appraisal from your manager to ensure your personal and professional development stays on track. And your "buddy" (a previous graduate) will be on hand for more informal advice. Where appropriate, you'll have the opportunity to study for professional qualifications, too.

At the end of your graduate programme you'll attend our development centre. This will provide you with the opportunity to formulate a plan to focus your future development to allow continuous growth and progress your career.

The Benefits
Working for the biggest and most innovative building society is just one of the rewards of joining Nationwide. Our flexible benefits package is designed to reward both hard work and loyalty. To give you an overview, your benefits will include the following:
  • Competitive base salary of £24,000
  • £3,000 joining bonus
  • Performance-related bonus
  • Private healthcare
  • Pension scheme
  • 24 days' holiday
  • Subsidised staff restaurant and café
  • Preferential rates on loans
In addition to core benefits, we offer a portfolio of 15 voluntary benefits under a salary sacrifice arrangement that includes health, pension and lifestyle products such as Bikes4Work, RAC Breakdown Cover and generously discounted shopping vouchers. You can also ‘buy' or ‘sell' up to a week's holiday.

Entry requirements
  • A 2.1 degree, any degree discipline (or equivalent)
  • 260 UCAS points (excluding general studies)
Work locations
We have head offices in Swindon, Northampton and Bournemouth as well as 750 branches within the Retail Branch Network. Whilst on the graduate programme you will be required to travel to any of our sites to carry out your work, therefore we ask that you are prepared to relocate.

Internship and Placement Positions
We offer eight to twelve-week internships over the summer months and a range of year long placements designed to inspire and motivate you every step of the way. You'll gain hands-on experience working on live projects with genuine responsibility and exciting challenges to give you an insight into the heart of our business. During the placements you'll learn what's happening at the cutting edge of your chosen business area combined with hands-on experience. All of which will prove invaluable when choosing your future career path.

You'll need to be in your penultimate year at university and expecting to achieve at least a 2:1 plus have 260 UCAS points (excluding general studies).

Closing Date
The application deadline is 31st December 2009 for all graduate programmes and 31 January 2010 for all internships. We recommend you apply early to avoid disappointment, as vacancies will close once places are filled.
