Davies Arnold Cooper LLP is a commercial law firm that specialises in dispute resolution and real estate. Established in 1927, the firm has offices in the UK, Spain and Mexico and employs over 400 people in total. We are best known for our work in the real estate and insurance industries and are growing our successful employment practice. Davies Arnold Cooper tops the independent league tables for its work in product liability and is also particularly highly rated in commercial litigation and construction.
Through work in the insurance and re-insurance markets the firm opened an office in Madrid in 1989. Davies Arnold Cooper is recognised as the leading insurance law specialist and one of the foremost environmental law specialists in Spain, where the firm advises most of the domestic and international insurance companies. The success of the firm's work in Spain where Davies Arnold Cooper now offers clients a full legal advice service, led to the opening of an office in Mexico City in 2003.
Training Programme
Training with Davies Arnold Cooper will be a very different experience to joining a large City Firm. As one of a relatively small group of Trainees, you will form an integral part of the teams you spend time with. We can offer you a surprisingly wide range of seat choices, and access to excellent training and development opportunities. However, by spending more time learning 'on the job' than in a sterile training room you will develop the technical, commercial and personal skills needed to make an outstanding lawyer.
The breadth and depth of our litigation expertise will expose you to many industries and types of dispute - and we have a host of litigation seats to choose from. Alternatively, if you relish the satisfaction that comes from completing a deal, you will enjoy time in our full-service real estate team. Here you can experience both commercial and residential property transactions and get an insight into specialist areas such as property litigation or planning.
Like most law firms, we design your training programme around four seats, each lasting six months. Seats are based in the UK although Spanish speakers may get the opportunity to spend time during their training contract or on qualification in our Madrid office. As well as the usual performance reviews, external training and internal briefings and seminars, our trainees attend an in-house development centre. The centre consists of a range of activities and exercises designed to understand your strengths and identify how these can drive your career forward.

Who Should Apply
We attract graduates wanting to join either a strong insurance and commercial litigation practice or a firm with a well-respected real estate and construction practice. We also have a dynamic and growing employment team, and our Hispanic practice and developing international focus make us a natural home for Spanish or other foreign language speakers.
Davies Arnold Cooper looks for intellect (a UCAS tariff of 300, excluding General Studies, and a 2:1 or first-class degree is usual) and self confidence. Drive and a strong sense of personal responsibility are also important to us.

Sponsorship
The firm will cover the cost of the GDL and LPC fees and provide a maintenance grant of £5,500 (£4,000 outside London).
