What can we do to prevent half of the British population from becoming obese by 2050? How can we reduce the impact of Europe's largest single organisation on the UK's carbon emissions? How will the credit crunch affect the provision of healthcare services in the UK?
These are exactly the sort of questions you'll be tackling as one of our managers. Our award winning Graduate Management Training Scheme will give you all the training and development you need to lead the way in preparing our world-class organisation for the demands of the future. No other graduate scheme can offer you the complexity, challenge, and sheer scope of being part of the NHS, which looks after 60 million people from their very first breath until their last. Career opportunities really don't get much bigger than this.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
Our two year programme, with two further years of career support, is divided into four streams, each offering a different route into graduate management: Finance, HR, General Management and for 2009, also Informatics. As well as a core learning module which gives you an overview of how each of the four streams function, you will receive specialist training in your chosen area, enabling you to develop your personal qualities and management skills, and attain a post-graduate academic/professional qualification.
WHAT OUR GRADS SAY
"I joined in September 2007 after having done eight months of clinical work within the NHS as part of my degree. I wanted to use my business skills to help people receive better healthcare and this scheme was perfect for that. The NHS is known for its great work-life balance, staff support and a great pension. As such a huge organisation, there's a variety of roles that you can do which I find really exciting."
Nikkie Foster- General Management stream
"I chose to apply to the NHS because I wanted to go into finance but also gain leadership experience that would allow me to take on managerial roles. The training offered is excellent and being supported and funded through a professional qualification is invaluable. The experience of working within the world's fourth largest organisation is unique, and the opportunities vary so widely that you can drive your career in whichever direction you want."
Michael Kelly - Finance Management stream
"HR makes a real difference to patients by ensuring that the right staff are appointed, trained and supported to enable them to work happily and safely, and provide excellent patient care. The Graduate Management Training Scheme places trainees in key positions across the NHS, and provides a high level of support and development for these individuals to deliver and become future leaders."
Sarah Smerdon - HR Management stream
