We are a star performer in the mid-market.
With a strong reputation in commercial
property and mid-market corporate
transactions, we're divided into four principle
practice areas. Our two main departments are
Business & Finance and Real Estate. We also
have a well respected Tax & Private Capital
Department and a highly regarded Dispute
Resolution Department. On a global level,
LG work with a number of independent firms
across Europe and the US.
We've achieved all this through an informal
and relaxed working culture that makes LG a
highly enjoyable place in which to work.
Types of work
The majority of our work comprises
corporate transactions and major commercial
property deals. In support of major
transactions we have a number of service
departments. These are able to act as thriving
independent businesses of their own, owing
to their high levels of expertise. Our Dispute
Resolution Department has numerous
specialist business areas independent of
Business & Finance and Real Estate. And,
Tax & Private Capital, though quite small in
the context of our Firm, has an enviable
reputation for success and efficiency and is a
clear leader within its field.
Who should apply?
You'll need to demonstrate a commitment to
a career in the commercial application of law,
together with an understanding of the
challenges and rigours of professional
practice. The nature of our work also
demands the ability to work as part of a
tightly knit team. Academically, you must
have at least 320 ucas tariff points and be
predicted a 2:1. You will also need an
excellent record of achievement in other
areas, which will demonstrate your suitability
for such a challenging role.
Training programme
The core aim of our two-year training
programme is to develop you into a
competent, all-round commercial lawyer who
fully comprehends the levels of expertise and
quality work required by the Firm.
Under partner supervision, we'll give you
early responsibility. We've structured your
training in such a way that you'll have to
manage your own files and interact with
clients. In addition to the Professional Skills
Course, you'll also experience departmental
training and induction sessions. There will be
formal appraisal sessions every three months,
where the opportunity to discuss your
progress and development will arise and
feedback given.
Your two-year contract will be divided into
four, six-month seats. The Real Estate,
Business & Finance and Dispute Resolution
seats are compulsory. For the remaining seat,
you can either choose Tax & Private Capital
or return to one of the other three. After your
first seat, the others are chosen in
consultation with you, ensuring you
maximise the development of broad skills in
the commercial application of the law.
Finally, we should add that to really succeed
at LG, you'll have to buy into our philosophy
and ethos. These include strong personal
ethics, an eagerness to work hard and the
dedication to always provide a high quality
client-oriented service. Of course, a sense of
humour is also crucial!
