Hogan Lovells is one of the leading global law
firms, with over 40 offices in Asia, Europe,
Latin America, the Middle East and the
United States. With a presence in the world's
major financial and commercial markets, we
are well placed to provide excellent businessoriented
advice to our clients locally and
internationally, and our distinctive market
position is founded on our exceptional breadth
of practice, on deep industry knowledge, and
on our ‘one team' global approach.
Types of work
Our international strength across a wide range
of practice areas gives us an exceptional
reputation not only for corporate, finance,
litigation, government regulatory and
intellectual property, but also for other
specialist areas including employment,
EU/competition, insurance and tax.
Who should apply
High-calibre candidates who can demonstrate
strong academic and intellectual ability,
ambition, drive, strong communication and
interpersonal skills, and a professional/
commercial attitude. At least a 2:1 degree
standard is expected.
Training programme
Our recruitment and training philosophy is
very simple: our success as a firm depends on
our ability to attract and retain the brightest
and most able people. Your training and
development will reflect the nature and
ambitions of the firm as a whole: you will
be guaranteed to have a genuinely broad
experience of our wide-ranging practice areas
and be immersed in Hogan Lovells teambased
structure.
Our trainees spend six months in four
different areas of the practice to gain as much
experience as possible. They also have the
option of spending time in the second year of
training in one of our international offices or
in the in-house legal team of a major client.
Trainees are offered as much responsibility as
they can handle, as well as a comprehensive
skills training programme, regular reviews,
appraisals, and support. After qualification
continuous training and professional
development remain a priority.
When and how to apply
Law students should apply over the summer
after completion of their penultimate year
and when they have their exam results (if
applicable). Non-law students and non-law
graduates should apply in their final year and
by 30 April 2011.
Vacation schemes
We offer up to 50 vacation placements over
two highly regarded summer schemes. Each
scheme is carefully designed to offer students
the opportunity gain exposure to life and
work in a City law firm. During the threeweek
programmes students gain a broad
insight into the work of the firm, as their time
is split between three of our major sectors.
Students get involved in real work with real
clients in much the same way as our trainees.
This includes drafting, attending meetings,
doing legal research and, where possible,
attending court. To complement this there is
also a comprehensive programme of talks,
workshops and social events.
The application deadline is 31 January 2011
and the schemes are open to penultimate year
law students.
