Lovells is one of the world's leading
international business legal practices with 26
offices in the major financial centres across
Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the United
States. The range of work at Lovells is very
broad. It is one of our strengths as a business
and a long standing attraction for candidates.
Our international strength across a wide range
of practice areas gives us an exceptional
reputation not only for corporate transactional
work, but also for other specialist areas
including dispute resolution, banking,
intellectual property, employment, EU/
competition, insurance and commercial.
We take on 90 trainees solicitors per year
across two intakes in the spring and autumn.
Our recruitment and training philosophy is
very simple: our success as a firm depends on
our ability to attract and retain the brightest
and most able people and we are looking for
the next generation of Lovells' lawyers and
partners.
Our trainee solicitors spend six months in
four different practice areas to gain as much
experience as possible. All trainees must
spend six months in a corporate or finance
seat, and six months gaining contentious
experience in our dispute resolution practice.
In the second year of training, there is the
option of spending a seat on secondment to
one of the firm's international offices or to
the in-house legal team of one of our major
clients.
The training contract is underpinned by a
comprehensive training programme which
includes the Professional Skills course. The
training is tailored to individual development
needs and regular appraisals and reviews take
place throughout each seat.
We also hold four vacation schemes per year at
Christmas, Easter and during the summer. Our
schemes offer students a great opportunity to
gain an insight into the firm and to experience
work in two or three of our major practice
areas. Students on these schemes get involved
in real work for real clients and participate in
a variety of workshops, case studies and talks
on a range of legal subjects.
As a consequence of the high profile work the
firm does, applicants need to have achieved
excellent academic results from GCSE
onwards. A 2.1 (or equivalent) is the minimum
standard of degree applicants should hold or
be expecting to achieve.
We are also looking for applicants who are
happy working in teams yet capable of, and
used to, independent action. Applicants need
to demonstrate ability and desire for lateral
thinking, be capable of close attention to
detail, and be ambitious to succeed in a top
law firm.
