SJ Berwin LLP is a pan-European firm and
celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The
firm was founded with the objective of
providing outstanding legal advice in a
dynamic and ‘different' environment. The
firm's growth has been fast and furious
and in less than 20 years we achieved Top
20 City Firm status. Much of the firm's
work is international and clients range from
major multinational business corporations
and financial institutions to high net-worth
individuals. As a result the firm has
established a strong reputation in corporate
finance. With offices in London, Brussels,
Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin,
Milan and Turin, the firm has over 500 feeearners
and 170 partners.
Main areas of work
Our clients are sophisticated buyers of legal
services, principally entrepreneurial companies
and financial institutions, whom we advise
on a range of services including corporate
finance, commercial, real estate, finance,
reconstruction & insolvency, financial
services, litigation, employment & pensions,
intellectual property, EU & competition,
media and tax. More information about our
service groups is available on our website
.
The training environment
The two-year training contract is divided into
four six-month seats. As over 50 per cent of
the firm's fee-earners work is in the corporate
finance department, trainees can expect to
spend at least half of their training contract
there. Trainees may also choose to take a
corporate or EU seat in one of the firm's
European offices.
How to apply
We welcome applications from all disciplines
and all universities. Candidates must have
a strong academic record, be on track for
or have achieved a 2:1 or equivalent in
their undergraduate degree, and have
demonstrated strong team and leadership
potential. Applications must be made using
the firm's online form available at
The same
form can be used to indicate your interest in
an open day, a vacation scheme and/or a
training contract.
Open days
We hold a number of open days in December
and January. These are informal information
events designed to give students an insight
into the work, people and culture of the firm.
Applications must be submitted as soon as
possible as places become filled very quickly.
Summer vacation schemes 2008
We run three schemes of two weeks in the
summer. The closing date for applications is
31 January 2008.
Training contracts 2010
The closing date for applications is 31 July
2008.
