Emma Morgan graduated from Warwick
University with a degree in Chemistry.
She joined Ernst & Young in 2006 on the
Business Advisor Programme.
My background
I chose a career in Financial Services due
to the excellent career prospects. There are
many different career paths to choose from
and a wide variety of areas to specialise in.
Due to the variety, I knew I would be able to
find an area where I could excel.
Prior to joining, my main work experience
was as a research chemist for a biotechnology
company. I also have a variety of other work
experience in the UK, USA and Australia in
retail and childcare.
My role
I work for Ernst & Young - one of the largest
professional services firms in the world.
I am on the Business Advisor Programme
(BAP). This is a graduate scheme set up to
give a wide variety of experiences within the
business units of Advisory Financial Services
at Ernst & Young. After graduation from the
scheme there are opportunities to specialise
and study for professional qualifications.
My responsibilities vary completely! That's
the best part about the graduate scheme.
Currently I am working at a high-profile
investment bank on a project management
team. This requires attending meetings,
producing reports which indicate where focus
is required in order to successfully complete
the project and communicating with the
client.
Financial Services is a booming sector in the
UK and standards are very high, especially
working for a high-profile firm such as Ernst
& Young. I enjoy that I am constantly being
stretched and I get to work alongside really
talented people. When I get good feedback I
know I have done well and can be proud of
it.
It can be tough having a full time job as
well as studying in my own time – at times
it can be challenging. However I always feel
supported by my Buddy and Counselling
Manager and know that I can talk to them
when I have problems.
My work environment
There is a very friendly and down to earth
atmosphere at Ernst & Young. My colleagues
are all very supportive. It's really difficult
to gauge the atmosphere of an organisation
before you join and I have been pleasantly
surprised.
My hours vary a lot, on average 8.30am to
6pm. It's a work hard, play hard atmosphere.
There are always lots of team lunches and
drinks organised.
My career so far
So far I have been able to avoid any major
crises! I have learned that communication is
key in order to avoid misunderstandings and
potential disasters. I always make sure I catch
up regularly with my manager and let them
know how I am prioritising my workload.
