Tesco
If you want choice, head to Tesco. We've
nearly as many exciting career opportunities
as we've products on our shelves. But with
2000 stores in the UK and the same again
across the world, that should come as no
surprise.
Whether it's in our stores, head office or
distribution centres, our 470,000 employees
are already making the most of the amazing
range of career routes on offer. Our graduates
are no exception. If it's a rapid rise up the
career ladder you're looking for, then one of
our 17 graduate programmes could be right
for you.
More than food
Nowadays we provide everything from
mobiles and clothing to financial services.
Tesco.com processes some 200,000 orders
per week, which is all part of our aim to give
customers whatever they need, whenever
they need it. Always looking to the future,
the issue of sustainability is a big part of
our business strategy. From reducing our
carbon footprint by delivering via train rather
than motorway, to saving 130,000 tonnes
of cardboard through reusable trays, we're
setting the standard for future supermarkets.
Playing a positive role in the community is
just as important. Last year we raised over
£6.1 million for our charity of the year, Marie
Curie Cancer Care, and this year we're going
all out for our selected charity, the Muscular
Dystrophy Campaign. Our Computer for
Schools programme is in its 17th year, which,
to date, has helped donate £118million worth
of equipment to over 30,000 schools.
Progression.
It's something we can all enjoy. We're just
as committed to our people as we are to
our customers, which means we'll give you
all the opportunities you need to build a
rewarding career with us. The fact that we're
the 2008 Times Employer of Choice for
General Management is testament to it. Our
stores, head office and distribution graduate
programmes offer fast-track, structured
development. Training involves hands-on
experience and technical and behavioural
development, supported by a mentor.
What could I expect?
Depending on the area you join, you could
get involved in anything from sourcing new
products and negotiating prices with suppliers
to developing sales forecasts, and constructing
board presentations about customer insight.
You could even find yourself running a store
or a depot within three to five years. We
pride ourselves in growing our own talent. So
when you've completed your training, you'll
be included in our annual career planning.
Its then up to you to make the most of these
opportunities and drive your progression
forward.
The best of everything
With a wide range of programmes to choose
from, we really do have something to suit
graduates from every background. You'll
need a combination of people, leadership and
analytical skills, and the drive to succeed in a
constantly changing business. You'll be full
of fresh ideas, with the ambition to become
a senior manager. But most of all your
energy, enthusiasm and passion to deliver for
customers will set you apart.
