What made you choose Ericsson Graduate
Scheme?
I did my Bachelor's in Electronics and
Communications and Masters in Mobile
Communication. I have always been
fascinated by the latest technology and
gadgets. Having a background in engineering
throughout I was enthusiastic to start my
career within a telecom giant. I had a few
options but since I had heard a lot about the
Ericsson Graduate Scheme I wanted to make
Ericsson my first choice. A challenging and
exciting recruitment process showed me a
glimpse of the company, as it reflected that
they wanted to hire the best, and that making
the scheme even more attractive. The most
impressive of all was the diverse variety of
technical roles that were offered to choose
from to develop our careers.
How is the Ericsson Graduate Scheme?
Ericsson Graduate scheme is much more than
I had initially heard about. The scheme lasts
about 18 months which is a good amount of
time to settle-in and start adding value to the
company. The induction week was excellent
and gave us an opportunity to understand the
company in depth and meet all the new UK
Graduates. We have a separate team entirely
dedicated for the Graduates, who helped us
to settle down in every means. The Induction
week ended with a grand supper with the
Senior Management Team, which gave us an
opportunity to interact with them as well. The
Graduates are treated in a highly professional
way which is exceptional. There are diverse
roles offered under the Graduate scheme
which vary in the degree of technicality.
This offers more opportunity and flexibility
for individuals. Being a technical person it
is important to have good knowledge and
understanding about the business since
business and technology go hand in hand.
Having remarkable training on various aspects
of business was an experience in itself.
Training and Development
Apart from technical qualifications, training
courses have been a regular part of the
graduate program. Our first six months
were quite exciting as we had quite a few
soft skills training courses to attend. This
was fun as it involved travelling across the
different Ericsson sites and meeting different
Graduates.
The professional quality of training makes
the Graduate scheme a wonderful lifetime
experience. All the training courses in a way
helped us to give our personality a more
professional touch. The best part of Ericsson
training courses was that were all linked to
each other. My role was much more technical
than I expected and hence I was provided
with all the professional qualifications that
would be required to fill the missing gaps.
Professional training helped me get along
smoothly in a dynamic company like this.
The best part is that the scheme helps us plan
our future by allocating a mentor to every
Graduate which is a remarkable feature of
Ericsson's Graduate Scheme.
What is your role and do you enjoy it?
I am working in the field of networking
as an IP Design Engineer. As a design
engineer initially it was quite challenging
as it required a good amount of knowledge
with adequate work experience. I was trained
accordingly to fit into my profile. The best
part of being a graduate is that I was never
rushed into things and was given sufficient
time to get comfortable and learn. Initially
I was given parts of projects coupled with
knowledge transfer and later driven into
projects at my own pace until I got the hold
of the technology. Technical qualifications
and adequate work experience gained with
time helped me gain confidence. Now I am
confident enough to successfully manage my
projects to completion. It's been a year now
as an Ericsson Graduate and I have started
to feel like I am a valuable asset for the
company. I am looking forward to finish my
Graduate scheme and build into an Engineer.
This is one of the best choices I could have
made and I would strongly recommend the
Ericsson Graduate Scheme to all those who
want to work in an dynamic environment with
respect, professionalism and perseverance.
