What We Do
The operations of the Bank of England
underpin the stability of the UK's economy
and financial system. Working here, your
activities will have an impact on important
aspects of the economic and financial life of
the UK. From interest rates and inflation to
banking and financial markets, you will be at
the very centre of things. The opportunities
within the Bank are broad – not everyone is
an economist – but everyone contributes to
the Bank's influence on the economy.
Graduate Opportunities
We offer a wide variety of opportunities to
applicants from all disciplines with strong
analytical skills.
Following your intensive three-week
induction you will move straight into a role in
one of our business areas, working as a
valued member of a dynamic and talented
team. Here you will begin to make your
mark, learning quickly, and rapidly assuming
greater autonomy and responsibility as your
experience and confidence grow. Throughout
the ACT Programme you will be closely
supported by your mentor and the Graduate
Development Adviser, who will help you
develop your own personal development
plan. Training will continue to play an
important role in your programme and you
will have access to a wide variety of
internally and externally provided courses.
At the same time, you will find that the onthe-
job training and the assistance and
support you receive from your immediate
colleagues will drive your development.
After around 18 months, all ACT Programme
graduates attend a three-day residential
professional development workshop. This is
your opportunity to formulate your
development plan for the second half of the
programme. You will be encouraged to
broaden your experience of the Bank's
activities and your ACT Programme may
involve an opportunity to work in another
division of the Bank, agreed between you and
your manager, and taking into account the
needs of the Bank.
Although postgraduates join the same
scheme, we do pay postgraduates
(economics/finance) a higher salary and once
you have joined, the pace of your career
progression is down to you.
What We Look For
We recruit bright, analytical graduates from
all disciplines who are looking for a career
which can be both challenging and
rewarding. We are seeking team players who
possess strong analytical skills, and the
ability to work to tight deadlines. Our
minimum requirements are a 2:1 and 300
UCAS points from 3 A-levels (excluding
General Studies) or equivalent.
