Nottingham Law School is one of the largest
university law schools in the UK, with a
national and international reputation. We
offer a full portfolio of courses, from
undergraduate degrees to the solicitors' Legal
Practice Course, the barristers' Bar
Vocational Course, and a range of Masterslevel
courses. We ensure that all of our
clients, from students to experienced
practitioners, receive the best practical legal
education and training.
You can also study in London as well as in
Nottingham. We have partnered with Kaplan
Law School to open a brand new campus
offering Nottingham Law School's LPC and
GDL in London.
Legal Practice Course
The LPC is offered by full-time and part-time
block study. This course has been designed to
be challenging and stimulating for students
and responsive to the needs of firms, varying
from large commercial to smaller high street
practices, and it still carries the endorsement
of a large cross section of firms from major
corporate through to high street.
Nottingham Law School's LPC features:
integration of the transactions and skills, so
that each advances the other, whilst ensuring
the transferability of skills between different
subject areas; carefully structured interactive
group work which develops an ability to
handle skills and transactions effectively, and
in an integrated way; a rigorous assessment
process that nevertheless avoids ‘assessment
overload', to maintain a teaching and
learning emphasis to the course; a
professionally qualified team, retaining
substantial links with practice; an excellent
rating from The Law Society's assessment
panel in every year of its operation.
Graduate Diploma in Law
Nottingham Law School's GDL is a one year
conversion course designed for any non-law
graduate who intends to become a solicitor or
barrister in the UK. The intensive course
effectively covers the seven core subjects of
an undergraduate law degree in one go. It is
the stepping stone to the LPC and BVC, and
a legal career thereafter. It is a graduate
diploma (Dip Law) in its own right and
operates on a similar basis to the LPC, though
inevitably it has a more academic basis.
Students who complete their GDL with
Nottingham Law School and then embark on
the School's excellent rated LPC or BVC will
be eligible for a full LLB on successful
completion of that professional course.
Bar Vocational Course
Nottingham Law School has designed its
BVC to develop to a high standard a range of
core practical skills, and to equip students to
succeed in the fast-changing environment of
practice at the Bar. Particular emphasis is
placed on the skill of advocacy. Advocacy
sessions are conducted in groups of six and
the School uses the Guildhall courtrooms for
most sessions. The BVC is taught entirely by
qualified practitioners, and utilises the same
integrated and interactive teaching methods
as all of the School's other professional
courses. Essentially, students learn by doing
and Nottingham Law School provides an
environment in which students are
encouraged to realise, through practice and
feedback, their full potential.
LLM (Top-up)
Students who complete Nottingham Law
School's LPC or BVC can choose to 'top up'
to an LLM.
Our LPC or BVC count one third towards the
credits needed to be awarded an LLM Law
and Legal Practice. Students can choose to
'top up' intensively over a summer school, or
over a period of up to five years.
There are a number of flexible options to
choose from, including taking modules from
our range of academic LLMs, writing a thesis,
or making use of the training received after
taking up their training contract or pupillage.
