Irwin Mitchell
Founded in 1912, we have grown from strength to strength and today employ more than 2300 people through our office network of major cities within the UK and our two offices in Spain.
Irwin Mitchell Solicitors has grown both organically and through a number of strategic mergers with firms and organisations in tune with our values and culture. We are the largest “full service” law firm within the UK with our services divided into two main categories; legal services for individuals and those for businesses, institutions and organisations.
Irwin Mitchell's areas of practice
Irwin Mitchell was established over 90 years ago and is the 4th largest law firm, and the largest Personal Injury practice, in the UK. As well as being recognised as the leading national personal injury firm in the UK, we have also developed a reputation for the delivery of strong commercial services that add real value to businesses, institutions and organisations. Over the last 5 years the firm has enjoyed substantial growth as its business strategies have reaped rewards.
A unique feature about the firm is the diversity of the areas of law in which the firm practice, from commercial law to insurance law, from business crime to major and multi-claimant personal injury litigation, not forgetting about the firm's expanding private client department.
What we look for in a trainee?
Above all else we value individuality, innovation, focus and the ability to think creatively. We welcome applications for our work experience placements and training contracts from all kinds of undergraduates and graduates. Regardless of your subject area, your background or your age, if we spot a raw talent, we'll nurture and reward it.
How will the trainee be trained?
Our two year training contract is second to none, offering you a range of seats with practical experience and insight so that you pursue the career you really want. During your training contract you will be given as much responsibility as you can handle, giving you a real exposure to the legal environment, working with your colleagues to develop your legal and client relationship skills. From the start of your training contract, you will work on live files with direct contact with clients and other solicitors. Your development will be encouraged through frequent reviews and feedback, to ensure that you keep on track and qualify as well rounded solicitor.
Trainees spend the first year of their training contract undertaking three seats of four months in duration gaining practical experience in diverse and innovative areas of law. Having experienced three very different areas of law, trainees are then likely to know where they wish to qualify so during the second year trainees undertake a twelve month seat, in the area which they and the firm wish them to qualify into.
