I joined the .... .... in
September 2006, having graduated from New

year training contract with the Treasury
Solicitor’s Department (TSol). I presently sit

liaison with lawyers and policy advisors

‘seats’ were in the Immigration Public Law

One of the most striking and enticing things
about being a legal trainee with the GLS is
the amount of responsibility and variety of
work you are given at an early stage. Trainees
are expected to handle their own caseload
from day one, albeit with the support of
colleagues who are always willing to impart
their own experience and offer guidance on
case handling.
My first seat in the Immigration Team proved
to be both intellectually demanding and
engaging. ....Read the full Editorial

It was tough, complex work that went to the

developed my commercial skills and client
perspective. I also had first-rate support and

outside of the office and in the office,
everyone always has the time of day for you

The Jones Day training contract is unique
and challenging and more importantly, is
what you make of it. For me, it has been an
entirely positive experience, however, it is
not for everyone. You have to be proactive
and can't expect work just to fall on your lap
all the time, you must be prepared to work
hard and willing to take on responsibility and
you must be able to manage a busy workload.
However, if you have all these qualities, then
Jones Day has the perfect training contract for

Choosing a firm for a training contract was
a fairly arduous task with many hours spent
poring over brochures and applications. I
was fortunate enough to undertake a number
of vacation schemes following my second
year at university. These placements included
WFW, another large City firm, a West End

a spread as I felt well informed with regard to
the different options that were available for a
