Editorial - CHP Consulting Frederic Laurent
I graduated from Ecole Polytechnique (Paris)
with a master's .... .... the biggest English banking
institutes. This included the migration of one
of their finance portfolios from their old
system onto our solution, ALFA. The project
involved understanding the specifics of the
portfolio, adapting our in-house migration
tools to their system, and checking that the
numbers before and after added up correctly.
Interaction with the client was constant, as their
knowledge of the business was invaluable.
After the successful completion of the
migration, I was reassigned to the company's
marketing team. It is a very different role to
my previous one; I am mainly in charge of the
technical set-up for demonstrations. This
involves setting up realistic data for demos
and developing enhancements to our
products to match the clients' needs. Our
product range is very large, so I often have to
ask for help from the people who developed
them originally. ....Read the full Editorial

Editorial - OC&C Strategy Consultants What did you do before joining OC&C?
I studied Economics and Management at
Hertford .... .... for
consulting and banking, and this is where
I developed an interest in consulting. I had no
prior business experience, but I had liaised with
lots of recruitment staff for the Future Flyers
guides, and therefore developed a pretty good
knowledge of what consulting was about.
Why strategy consulting as a career?/Why
OC&C?
I felt strategy consulting sounded more
interesting as a career because you get to work
within businesses on high-level issues that can
have a huge impact. I was keen to find a smaller
firm where I could get to know the company
and the staff much more easily. Having done the
internship, I feel it definitely helped me make
an informed decision about which career path
I wanted to take. The main reason I accepted
their offer of a job was that I knew I would
never dread going to work. ....Read the full Editorial

Editorial - Oliver Wyman 1
The Financial Services (FS) industry is one
of the fastest growing and most diverse in the
world. It is .... .... of reliable banking services
and are key determinants of emerging
markets’ economic growth prospects. Hence
we are seeing in these markets a general trend
towards liberalisation of formerly closed
markets, and a corresponding increase in
competition, innovation and customer choice.
In more mature markets, the impact of financial
services on growth will centre on the ability of
providers to develop solutions to emerging
socio-demographic issues such as the funding
of retirement and of healthcare. For example, in
Europe today there are typically three workers
for every retiree but in some countries by the
time today’s graduates are making pensions
decisions this ratio will be closer to one-to-one.
What is clear is that as the FS industry grows
ever faster and becomes ever more diverse,
there are correspondingly diverse and
growing opportunities to individuals looking
for a challenging career in the industry. ....Read the full Editorial

She joined Ernst & Young.... ....bank on a project management

the project and communicating with the
client.
Financial Services is a booming sector in the
UK and standards are very high, especially
working for a high-profile firm such as Ernst

stretched and I get to work alongside really
talented people. When I get good feedback I

It can be tough having a full time job as

it can be challenging. However I always feel

What do you do?
I currently work for the Group Executive
Director of UK Retail Banking, Helen Weir, as
an Assistant in her Executive office alongside
the rest of her team. My role is hugely varied
and I can never quite be sure what I will be

disciplined banking roles. ....Read the full Editorial
