Regr/cession surprisingly well-placed in the grand scheme of things. Few of us own property, few have dependants and most are welcome to live in and work from their parents' place. Employment-wise, we've got degrees - and if we can't find work, we're in a good position to reconsider postgrad study. I don't have a lot to complain about today. In fact, I'd ....Read Full Post

Free To A Good Home again. I've found a work experience scheme for print journalism, but it's in Dublin. Travelling and living abroad relies on huge reserves of excitement and a thirst for adventure. But mine was quenched in Paris last autumn. What I really want is to get some good work experience in the UK. But no-one wants me!!

Making headlines there's a lot of internship schemes and postgraduate study on offer even if there's no jobs". Unfortunately, I have always known that's not true and it's quite a comfort having Britain's leading broadsheet put the issue front page.

Having said that, at least on the ....Read Full Post

Editorial - Lloyds TSB
Name: David Pilbeam
Business Area: UK Retail Banking, Group
Executive Director's .... .... are on the scheme which is supplemented
by an individual learning fund which you can
use to boost your skills. I have spent some
of my fund on an accountancy qualification
but you don't necessarily need to spend it on
formal classroom learning. Other graduates
have spent their funds on less traditional (but
still valuable) development activities like
funding training and travel for the Microsoft
Challenge Charity event!
Lloyds TSB has a big charity culture as well
as its own charitable foundation. Earlier
this year I was involved in organising an
Emerging Talent charity event that raised
nearly £10,000 for our previous charity of
the year, Barnardo's. The green agenda is
big here too - we are on a mission to reduce
our carbon footprint! We also support
more unorthodox charities like Opportunity
International that provide micro-finance in
developing countries. ....Read the full Editorial

Graduated: 2006
Job Title: .... .... nature of
the scheme means you really understand the
different parts of the business.
I started in late 2007 in Product Development
and, since March, have been working with
the Head of Business Management to look
at how we run MGS from a commercial and
operational point of view. As well as this, I'm
reviewing our investment process and which
hedge fund managers we use. It's a great way
to see the business from end to end.
To work here I think you really need to be
curious, innovative and take a methodical
approach to what you do. We don't have the
'star' culture that is seen at many City firms
and that means you're always supported in
what you do. For instance, I'm taking the first
of my CFA exams in December, which the
company is not only sponsoring, but allowing
study leave for. It's just that sort of a place.
Whatever the future holds, we'll see. ....Read the full Editorial

My responsibilities vary completely! That’s

Currently I am working at a high-profile

Financial Services is a booming sector in the

Editorial - TUI Travel
Name: David Scott
Age: 24
Education: University of Leeds, BA French .... .... TUI Travel trainee scheme appealed
because of the opportunities and diversity of
the placements spread out over an 18 months
contract. With more than 47,000 employees
across the world and over 200 brands,
including two out of the three largest Travel
companies in the UK (Thomson and First
Choice) it was clear that it was more a case
of deciding what route I personally wanted
to explore rather then being told in which
areas of the business I should gain work
experience. With the Group split into 5 main
sectors, Mainstream, Activity, Specialist and
Emerging Markets, Joint Venture and Online
Destinations Services, there was certainly
no lack of choice, and I was excited about
the opportunities available to me not only
in the UK but also abroad, for example at
TUI Espana in Spain or TUI Deutschland in
Germany or further opportunities in Russia
and China. ....Read the full Editorial
