surprisingly well-placed in the grand scheme of things. Few of us own property, few have dependants and most are welcome to live in and work from their parents' place. Employment-wise, we've got degrees - and if we can't find work, we're in a good position to reconsider postgrad study. I don't have a lot to complain about today. In fact, I'd .... Read Full Post

again. I've found a work experience scheme for print journalism, but it's in Dublin. Travelling and living abroad relies on huge reserves of excitement and a thirst for adventure. there's a lot of internship schemes and postgraduate study on offer even if there's no jobs". Richard joined Corus as a Mechanical Engineer in 2006, with a view to becoming chartered with the ....
.... the apprenticeship schemes that were available. However, it wasn’t until the latter years at university that I heard about the graduate scheme. I spoke to a friend who had been on the apprenticeship scheme and continued through onto the graduate scheme via a sponsorship from Corus, and I decided that it definitely merited further investigation."

So now you’ve joined, what do you actually do?

"I’m currently on a short placement in the Engineering Steels design office as part of my professional development working towards gaining Chartered Engineering status with the IMechE. During my time with Corus I have had placements as a Maintenance Engineer in the Coke Ovens, Scunthorpe Rod Mill and Central Engineering Workshops, as well as a secondment to the Major Contracts Project team. .... Kate ....
.... the Thames Tideway scheme.

Flexibility and a sense of adventure Working abroad has its benefits and I would definitely do it again but it's not for everyone and not all specialisms involve travel. It can be isolating - in Iceland I saw the same 20 people for 24 hours a day. An international engineer needs a capsule wardrobe, flexibility and a sense of adventure. If you are going to a remote location, take a laptop so you can watch DVDs, play games and chat online. .... Read the full Editorial

.... scheme stood out from the rest. Not only tailored to my individual needs, it also offered continuous support in my career development. I felt that I'd benefit greatly from a scheme offering experience in a number of roles. Theirs consisted of three different placements: one in Field Sales, one in a Head Office-based Sales role, and the third, either another Sales role or a role in Customer Marketing.

I began my life with Nestle Rowntree in Sheffield, as a Business Development Executive (BDE). As part of a regional team, I was responsible for managing my own territory and the accounts within it. These ranged from small Co-ops to massive Tesco Extras. Each call involved ensuring stores were compliant with Head Officeagreed activity, influencing additional orders and negotiating discretionary space for incremental displays. .... Editorial - Covance Editorial - Covance
I graduated from York University with a BSc (hons) in Biology in 2006, and in April 2007, I joined ....
.... a rolling training scheme of more specialised techniques, in which there is some scope for the trainee to input into the direction that their training takes. This rolling scheme means that even after a year in the job, there are still new things for me to learn, which I like as it means that my job is constantly changing and evolving, which stops it from becoming monotonous.

As I have become trained in, and competent in, a greater range of histological techniques, I have also found that the level of responsibility to which I am exposed has increased. This is reflected in the number and type of tasks which I am set on a daily basis, and the direction in which my training has gone. However, the department is set up to introduce responsibility gradually, and so whilst the level of responsibility that I have taken on over the last year has grown, it is likely to further increase as I spend longer in the job. ....
