"Before I began the LPC I was apprehensive
about the prospect of becoming a trainee.
Although I enjoyed my law degree I did
not feel like it had prepared me for life in
practice. I could explain complex academic
ideas but how would I interact with clients in
the real world?
After starting the LPC at BPP my confidence
soon began to grow. Every aspect of studying
at BPP is geared to prepare you for life in
practice. The LPC challenges you to develop
the skills that are crucial for a solicitor,
the ability to understand the commercial
environment in which the law operates and
advise clients in a practical manner.
As the tutors at BPP have all been in practice
they can draw upon their experiences as well
as their expertise to make the transition from
academic study to practical application as
easy as possible. ....Read the full Editorial

I graduated from York University with a BSc

I joined .... .... as a trainee cellular pathology
scientist. I have enjoyed my first year in the
job, and would recommend the company, and
the department, as a potential employer to any
recent graduate with a similar background to
my own.
I was first attracted to Covance as I was
looking for a scientific job in the Yorkshire
area, where I could build upon the skills
which I learnt at university. After researching
the company, I was impressed by the ethos
of Covance – which has its foundations in
the desire to bring the miracles of medicine
to market sooner – and so decided to apply
for this job. In the year since I started, I have
found the aforementioned company ethos not
just to be a tagline or motto, but a way of life
at Covance, and a motivation for working
for the staff. ....Read the full Editorial

Name: David Scott
Age: 24
Education: University of Leeds, BA French .... .... TUI Travel trainee scheme appealed

the placements spread out over an 18 months
contract. With more than 47,000 employees
across the world and over 200 brands,
including two out of the three largest Travel
companies in the UK (Thomson and First

of deciding what route I personally wanted

areas of the business I should gain work
experience. With the Group split into 5 main

Emerging Markets, Joint Venture and Online

I joined the Government Legal Service in
September 2006, having graduated from New

year training contract with the Treasury
Solicitor’s Department (TSol). I presently sit
within the Attorney General’s Office, which

liaison with lawyers and policy advisors
across Whitehall and beyond. My first two
‘seats’ were in the Immigration Public Law
and Ministry of Defence Private Law teams.
One of the most striking and enticing things
about being a legal trainee with the GLS is
the amount of responsibility and variety of
work you are given at an early stage. Trainees
are expected to handle their own caseload
from day one, albeit with the support of
colleagues who are always willing to impart
their own experience and offer guidance on
case handling. ....Read the full Editorial
