Like many of you I'm trying new opportunities in this hard economic environment. Many people view the current situation as a misfortune, but I believe it is an opportunity for people who are willing to take risks and to pursue non traditional avenues in life.
Imagine arriving in a foreign country with only one suit case and $200 in your pocket. Imagine knowing very little about the place where you're about to start a new life but fortunately speaking the local language... Well this is my story. I was a recent college graduate in Russia at the time of the collapse of the Soviet regime. Russia was in a very difficult economic and political situation. I saw an opportunity to enroll on an MBA program in the US which I decided to pursue. I did speak fluent English but I didn't have any money and I didn't know much about the US.
The current economic situation is very much like the situation in Russia post collapse of the Soviet Empire. I chose to go study abroad but some people were able to succeed in Russia. However, many more were not so successful in their endeavours. Why? An extreme situation requires extreme measures. A person has to be adaptable, willing to accept the change, able to let go of their comfortable past and able to see and pursue non traditional opportunities. It is very hard to do. But those who are able to do so will succeed! Difficult times like our current economic situation create lots of movements hence opening many opportunities. |
