20 Applications Later, An Entertainment Media Production Company Interview

After sending off my CV to about 20 different television production companies, ranging from big names such as Channel 4 to smaller independent companies such as Wall to Wall productions, I got a call last week asking me to come to an interview! It was for an entertainment media production company, for a position as a runner. So I took my suit straight to the dry cleaners!

I suppose I should explain the circumstances. I recently decided that I really want to work in entertainment media. So, after seeking advice from my careers department at university, I sent off my CV to as many television production companies that I could find on the internet. I just googled 'entertainment media' and trawled through the websites.  I was looking for any positions advertised as a 'runner' because in this industry, you really have to start at the bottom!

On most companies' website, you can find the recruitment email address. So I sent off endless emails, usually getting no reply! However, one company rang me up and asked me to come in for an 'informal chat'! I assumed that informal chat does not mean jeans and a t-shirt.

The company is based in central London so I hit the tube and arrived 10 minutes early. My actual interview lasted about 30 minutes and was essentially a whole host of questions about my CV and covering letter. I was, of course, asked the three key questions: Why do I want to work in media? Why do I want to work in this company? What do I have to offer?

Anyway, all went well as I was told to give them a call when my Masters is finished and I can start work as a runner! Will keep you all posted ...

Following a fantastic year out travelling around Asia and Australia after my degree, I began to
