Recruitment Consultants

Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening..depending on when your reading...grab yourself a coffee...or a glass of wine and enjoy!

Today seems an apt day to write this post..not because its April Fools (and I will come onto that in a minute) but because its typically what us financial types refer to as the start of the new financial year...all the digits get set to zero and its time to start it all over again!

Back to April Fools...I didn't fall for any tricks this year, well aside from, and I'm embarrassed to admit this, my 'Wii Fit' balance board telling me it didn't work and then laughing and telling me it had fooled me....hmmm moving on!!

My hot topic today is recruitment. I left my past employer recently and decided that I would freelance, current market conditions and all that jazz. It seemed to be a good way forward, however like the next person I do see the attraction of a good salary and the comfort of being paid by someone else, so Ive continued to apply for roles here and there. You know the score...you log onto the recruitment site, feeling a little wounded and your prides a little hurt after being made redundant and you notice a job, your interested, your read it again, you punch the air and give a little shout, you could do that, you could do that with your eyes closed and half asleep, so you attach the document that's designed to "sell" you, otherwise known as fraud by intent, the CV!! Moments later you get that automated generic, "thanks for applying" response, then all is quiet on the western front for days... weeks.... till then suddenly BAM it hits your inbox, the 'dear john..the thanks but no thanks'.

I've been there, done that and sent an email response kindly asking for feedback, 'is something wrong with me?....my fraud by intent?...answers on a postcard please!'

Only you don't get the answers cos Gill or Peter or Paul aren't interested. I liken them, and forgive me for saying so, to the estate agents of yesteryear. You know the ones who would pick and choose who reserved that new house on their shiny new development. House to sell?? No chance! Now look at them...begging you to walk through their doors...'pop in for a glass of wine, bring the kids they can bounce on the bouncy castle...want us to pay your mortgage for the next 20 years...please reserve here!!'

So..in a nutshell, my rant is coming to a close...my point is: I know there are some millions looking for work and the recruitment consultants are inundated with applicants and not as many companies are recruiting..but keep this in mind...in a few years time when the market has regenerated itself...you will be there head hunting us and maybe just maybe...we might just send  you to our voicemail!
